COVID-19 DISTRICT INFORMATION

Denison ISD

UPDATE: Denison ISD to extend school closure for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

Based on Governor Gregg Abbott's April 17, 2020 message, Denison ISD will be extending our school closure for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  In addition, there will be no extra-curricular activities or practices during the extended closure.  Every effort must be taken to slow the spread of the COVID-19.   The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.

Students will continue receiving at-home instruction during this closure.  Elementary and intermediate students with internet access should continue to check the Denison ISD website for weekly lessons.  Packet pickup will continue for those families who do not have internet access.  Scott Middle School and Denison High School students will continue to receive assignments via Schoology.  Meal delivery will continue using established procedures and locations will continue as well until further notice.

Denison ISD is so very proud of the extra efforts given by our educators to produce at-home lessons.  Likewise, the District is appreciative of our partnership with our families as they help to deliver these at-home lessons to ensure the continued academic growth of our students.    Continue to monitor the Denison ISD website on a daily basis for updates.  www.denisonisd.net

Read Together

Read with your child, and talk about what was read.

If you have access to a smartphone or internet device, a neat reading website to check out is Storyline Online.

https://www.storylineonline.net  Storyline Online is for children, parents, caregivers and educators worldwide. The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s award-winning children’s literacy website, Storyline Online, streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside creatively produced illustrations.

Play Board Games

Board games are great for promoting collaboration, inquiry, and critical thinking.

Writing Opportunities

Pose “Would you rather” questions to your scholar. Then, have them write a story about their response.

For example, ask:

  • Would you rather it be warm and raining or cold and snowing today? Or Would you rather be able to create a new holiday or create a new sport?

Then, your scholar could write about what he might do on a rainy or snowy day, or what holiday or sport she would create!

If you need help thinking of “Would You Rather” questions, here’s a website that has 200!

https://conversationstartersworld.com/would-you-rather-questions-for-kids/

Do It Yourself Art Projects

Cook Together

Having your child cook with you is an engaging way to review measurements and fractions. While following the recipe, point out the size of a teaspoon vs. a tablespoon, a 1/4 cup vs. a 1/2 cup, etc. Discuss the temperature of the oven and the number of minutes that it takes to complete the cooking process! This is math...in real life!

Take a Virtual Field Trip

Using this website, you and your child can take a virtual field trip to 30 interesting places around the world! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SvIdgTx9djKO6SjyvPDsoGlkgE3iExmi3qh2KRRku_w/mobilebasic

Visit the San Diego Zoo, Yellowstone National Park, the U.S. Space and Rocket Museum, the Great Wall of China…and many other interesting places!

Educational Apps via Clever

If you have access to the internet, remind your scholar that they have access to the educational apps that they use at school via the Clever portal.

  • Go to www.denisonisd.net

  • Hover over students.

  • Click on student links.

  • Then, click on Clever. (Students should know their logins.)
