5th Grade - Important Information

The 5th-grade staff here at B. McDaniel would like to let you know how excited we are to have your student join us this year! Below, we have addressed a few important questions that you might have about the upcoming school year. Please feel free to contact any of your student’s teachers at any time during the year for any other concerns you might have. Thank you for helping us make this a fantastic year for your student at B. McDaniel!

Before School Procedures - 7:30 - 8:10 Students sit on their team hall.

Free Breakfast Available - Optional FREE breakfast served to ALL students in Cafeteria 7:30-8:30 am

After School Dismissal

3:30 Students will be walked to the buses or to the car rider wait area inside the building. Walkers

and car riders will be dismissed out the south entrance. Car riders will be dismissed as parents

arrive. Pick-up for 5th-grade students is through the EAST loop only. Parents must drive

through the loop to pick up their child. Students will not be permitted to walk to the street to

get in cars. Parents cannot park in the teacher parking lot or on the side streets and walk up to get

their child. Thank you for your cooperation in this area of student safety.

Classroom Expectations

Be Safe

  • Keep hands and feet to yourself

  • Keep objects to yourself

  • Walk at all times


Be Respectful

  • Respectfully follow directions and classroom procedures

  • Respect school property and the property of others

  • Always accept correction respectfully


Be Responsible

  • Bring necessary materials to class every day

  • Be on time to school every day

  • Be in assigned seat, ready to work when class begins


Students who choose to demonstrate Classroom Expectations will be rewarded with

  • special privileges

  • positive notes or texts to parents

  • lunch with a friend

  • lunch and a movie in the classroom

  • treats

  • JAM

  • Recess


Students who choose not to demonstrate Classroom Expectations will receive

  • a verbal warning

  • planner note to parent/ must be signed night of incident

  • loss of privileges

  • phone call, email, or text to parent

  • after school detention

  • principal’s office referral for severe or continuing behavior issues


Hallway Expectations

Students will keep their hands, feet, and objects to themselves, walk on the right side of the hallway,

and use zero level voices.



Students will not carry backpacks at B. McDaniel. Each student is asked to carry a zipper binder.

This should be sufficient to house their planners, work, and supplies.


Homework Policy 

Math – Assigned on Monday, due on Friday.  Work not completed in class

must be completed at home.

Reading –30 min. AR reading each night / Weekly Reading Passages (beginning after Christmas)           

Language Arts/Spelling – Weekly Spelling Test on Friday (and assignments not completed in class)

Science – No homework unless you receive a remind notice or work is not completed in class.

Social Studies – Assignments not completed in class.

Planners – Planners are used for communication between students, parents, and teachers.  Planners should be reviewed by parents every day; then signed on Friday and returned on Monday.  (Parents, please sign your full name – initials are so easy to copy).  Please do NOT sign ahead.  If a discipline issue occurs, it will be circled in a yellow highlighter and must be signed that day.

Conference Time -  The Fifth Grade teachers will be available to meet with you as a team from 11:25 – 12:00 or 12:35-1:10.  If you would like a conference, please call the numbers below or email to schedule a day convenient for you.
